Mixsa, a native New Yorker (puertorriqueña by heritage), now lives in the U.K. But in 2008, she spent a Sunday afternoon with me around Columbus Circle, Hell's Kitchen, the old Post Office, and a small corner of Central Park to see how people would react to her exercising her equal right to be topless in public (as guaranteed by the New York State Constitution). We did have one older woman yelling, "Hey!!" at us several times while Mixsa posed at the base of the Columbus statue, but she never articulated anything beyond that. Otherwise, people seemed not to care all that much.
