Well, the other day I posted the final chapters of a book I've been writing for a year to http://storiesonline.net (my Author name is William Turney Morris), and at 750,000+ words it was a major undertaking. It's the first book in what will be a series, and the final scene has the main character hit by a car... needless to say, I got quite a few emails from readers not happy with that ending, so I had to let them know that there is another book in the pipeline. There's nothing quite as gratifying for an author to get comments like: "I'm so glad to hear there's a next book! I thought you were killing off your protagonist--a gutsy move, and one I was sure would get you lots of hate mail. I'm pleased that my presumption was wrong." "I so do enjoy your work. do you onlypost your work on SOL or do you have published books and if so what are they." "I hope, after a suitable break, that you'll continue with Lori's story. If that isn't to be, then just say again I really enjoyed the story and thank you for sharing it. This has to be one of the best "coming of age" stories I have read in a long time. " Okay, so I guess this is a big brag session for me... but tough shit, I do feel great when I get feedback like that. And if I can't blow my own horn here, then too bad...
