Hi... I was wondering if anyone would be interested in collaborating on building a site or if anyone had any advice /the benifits of having one. I'm free to shoot after monday (darn dental fun) and my bday is this thursday but I don't think I'll be doing a ton due to low funds. *plays tiny violin* on a semi unrelated note does anyone know of any arcade locations or private machine owners who might allow a shoot at their place in los angeles or not terribly far from here? I'm willing to scrape up a bit of change for the time (after everything balances out later in the month) happy Sunday everyone!

Just a thought but ... use Diverxity as "your site". It already has market visibility (meaning you don't have to start from ground zero). It has to tools to build a fan base and tools to promote yourself.

@fantasyonfilm well if ur ever out this way (cause I'm always too broke to leave too often or travel very far) @dubburns feel free to drop me a PM of what you have in mind... at the very least we might be able to shoot some sets for this site. @JoeKoz I was sorta thinking the same thing/never been sure how building a site helps or hinders

Building your own site always an option but probably not the best when you're just starting to build a web presence. In many cases it will require hiring someone to code the build and that's not always cheap. I had a custom site built for a business I ran. Not overly complicated but it had a database in the background to keep track of subscribers and billing -- much like the kind of site you'd have to build. The price tag on that in 2009 was $3k. I have to think that using something already in place, up and running with traffic and tools for building the necessary fan base without the up-front cash expenditure would be a better way. Then, once you have a fan base build, you can always move out on your own site.
